Job summary

Compass is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Streaming & Durability team to own the data plane that underpins our core real estate products. You will design, implement, and operate the database and caching fleet, delivering fast and reliable access for thousands of tenants.

You will build multi-tenant isolation, ship Go-based SDKs, and manage fleet-scale upgrades and Kafka/MSK streaming with zero downtime. Strong observability and collaboration with product teams are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems at production scale in AWS.
• Experience building shared tooling (SDKs, client libraries, platform APIs).
• Ability to reason about trade-offs between safety and speed in infrastructure decisions.
• Proficiency in Go and comfort with Terraform, Kubernetes, and IAM-heavy AWS environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate the database and caching fleet (PostgreSQL, Redis/ElastiCache, DynamoDB) across Compass products.
• Build multi-tenant data isolation and SDKs in Go, Java, and Python to enforce tenant-safe access patterns.
• Own production database upgrades at fleet scale with zero customer impact.
• Build and scale Kafka/MSK streaming infrastructure and blue/green deployment strategies.
• Develop observability into the data layer with dashboards and telemetry.
