Job summary

Compass is seeking a Senior Engineer to own the data layer and streaming infrastructure that underpins its products. You will design tenant-isolation, buildGo/Java/Python SDKs, and manage upgraded production databases at scale on AWS.

Your work will impact thousands of tenants with low-latency, reliable data services and robust observability. You will collaborate with product teams to scale infrastructure, implement safe data access, and ensure continuous operation of the core data platform

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Experience with at least one major managed database (PostgreSQL) in AWS.
• Experience building shared tooling and platform APIs for engineers.
• Ability to reason about trade-offs between safety and performance in infra.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate the database and caching fleet (PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB) that underpins Compass's core products.
• Build multi-tenant data isolation into the data layer, shipping SDKs in Go, Java, and Python.
• Own production database upgrades at fleet scale with zero downtime.
• Build and scale Kafka/MSK streaming infrastructure and architecture.
