Job summary

General Motors Company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and optimize the Mobile Backend for Frontend (MBFF) platform and back-office integrations. You will develop scalable microservices in Java/Spring Boot, deploy on Azure, and improve API security, reliability, and observability to support GM’s mobile ownership experiences.

The role emphasizes cloud-native operations, DevOps automation, and AI-driven productivity enhancements, with strong emphasis on TDD and robust test

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing microservices and RESTful APIs in distributed systems.
• Cloud experience, preferably Azure, with containerized deployments and managed services.
• Strong DevOps understanding with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
• Experience with TDD and modern testing (JUnit, Mockito).
• Proficient with SQL databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable microservices, REST APIs, GraphQL APIs, and event-driven integrations.
• Develop secure, reliable backend services for mobile and enterprise workflows.
• Deploy and operate services on Azure using AKS, API Management, Functions, Cosmos DB, SQL Database.
• Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and release governance with Azure DevOps and Git workflows.
• Improve observability with metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and monitoring tools.
• Define and monitor SLOs/SLAs and improve service reliability.
• Apply AI-assisted engineering practices for productivity and insights.
• Practice TDD with robust unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to architecture docs and runbooks.
