Job summary

General Motors Company seeks a Senior Software Engineer – Vehicle Experience Services to design, build, and operate cloud-connected vehicle platforms. You will own Java microservices, Spring Boot, and cloud-native components across the Carrier and Vehicle Services Platform, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable features.

The role emphasizes production-grade software, observability, on-call readiness, and mentoring peers within an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade services.
• Hands-on cloud-native development experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java microservices using Spring Boot 3.2+ and Java 17+ in cloud-native environments.
• Implement and support event-driven integrations using Spring Kafka (producers, consumers, error handling, retries, and monitoring).
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and migrations to ensure data integrity and performance.
• Build and enhance monitoring and alerting with Datadog for owned services.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and other engineering teams to refine requirements and deliver features.
• Troubleshoot production issues, including log/metric analysis and on-call rotations.
• Participate in code reviews, contribute to coding standards, and ensure best practices for quality and security.
• Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and support guides for services.
• Act as a technical mentor and thought partner within the team.
• Work in an agile, team-oriented environment with planning and estimation.
• Develop automated functional tests for components and system-level QA.
