Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking a senior software engineer to lead development of highly complex systems and drive engineering excellence. You will serve as a subject‑matter expert, mentoring teams and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure high quality solutions that align with business needs and security requirements.

You will engage in architecture decisions, research root causes, and guide adoption of innovative, cost-effective technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field and at least 5 years of development experience OR 9 years related experience.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience in software development lifecycle methodologies.
• Ability to communicate, mentor, and lead with a positive attitude.
• Ability to translate WaaS strategy into design and development decisions.
• Experience researching root causes and implementing improvements.
• Ability to build relationships and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead system development and engineering for highly complex programs.
• Serve as SME for implementing innovative and cost-effective solutions.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to team members and drive root-cause analysis.
• Coordinate with resources to integrate products and complex solutions.
• Act as primary consultant on status, issues, and technology enhancements.
• Participate in proposals, estimates, and proof-of-concept activities.
• Maintain awareness of industry best practices and standards.
