Job summary

Upbound is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help us build and operate Upbound Spaces, the multi-control-plane management software at the heart of the Upbound Platform. You will scale production SaaS services across cloud and on-prem environments and contribute to open-source projects like Crossplane.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Seattle, you will join the Spaces team, own features, troubleshoot multi-tenant environments, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure reliability

• Experience operating production cloud services at scale.
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems.
• Experience building/controllers that interact with the Kubernetes API.
• Comfortable engaging with customers to understand and resolve issues.
• Take ownership and drive incidents to resolution.

Responsibilities

• Actively build and operate Upbound Spaces in production, troubleshooting and resolving issues across multi-tenant SaaS environments.
• Take ownership of building features in high demand by Upbound's customers and deliver new functionality.
• Investigate and debug complex issues in customer environments, including multi-control plane scenarios.
• Communicate through design docs and post-incident reviews that drive improvements.
• Support the full project lifecycle for scalable services in a cloud environment.
• Write and maintain Go code interfacing with the Kubernetes API, focusing on observability and ops.
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes services in production with metrics, logs, and traces.
• Build and maintain tooling for debugging and incident response.
• Author documentation, runbooks, and blogs to support new features.
• Support Spaces self-hosted distributions and participate in on-call rotation.
