Job summary

Upbound is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to scale Upbound Spaces and the Intelligent Control Plane across cloud and on-prem environments. You will write Go code interfacing with the Kubernetes API, build operators, and drive reliability at scale.

Based in or able to work from San Francisco Bay Area or Seattle, you’ll own production features, respond to incidents, and collaborate with open-source projects and customers to deliver robust, observable systems.

Qualifications

• Experience operating production cloud services at scale.
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Experience building and operating controllers that interact with the Kubernetes API server, including reconciliation loops.
• Comfortable working directly with customers to understand and resolve complex issues.

Responsibilities

• Actively build and operate Upbound Spaces in production, troubleshooting and resolving issues across multi-tenant SaaS environments and open-source projects.
• Take ownership of building features in high demand by customers and deliver new functionality.
• Investigate and debug complex issues in customer environments, including multi-control plane scenarios and performance bottlenecks.
• Communicate through design documents and post-incident reviews to drive system improvements.
• Support the full project lifecycle for scalable services in cloud environments; from discovery to production-readiness and ongoing support.
