Job summary

Apartment List is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to own core services for the Lister team. You’ll work end-to-end from Kotlin/Ruby backend to TypeScript/React frontend, shaping solutions for ambiguous problems and guiding peers through reviews and design discussions.

You’ll collaborate with product, design, and analytics to raise the bar for performance and scalability across the platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong grounding in data structures, algorithms and distributed systems.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with relational databases and data modeling.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Ruby, or TypeScript with willingness to learn others.
• Experience across backend services to frontend applications.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to speed up work.
• Strong collaboration with product managers, designers and analysts.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of scalable backend services powering the Lister experience.
• Drive full-stack feature delivery across Kotlin/Ruby and TypeScript/React.
• Shape technical solutions for ambiguous problems and balance speed with maintainability.
• Partner with engineering teams to keep solutions cohesive for renters and partners.
• Raise the technical bar through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions.
• Contribute to Lister's technical roadmap and surface tradeoffs to leadership.
