Job summary

Smile’s health data platform enables clinicians and organizations to access and liberate structured healthcare data. The Staff Software Developer will act as a technical leader, gathering requirements, exploring complex system challenges, and driving end-to-end features while mentoring junior developers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in the software development lifecycle, 4+ years in senior or staff roles.
• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
• Proven experience developing software with strong unit and functional testing practices.
• Expertise in backend development using Java and Spring Boot; microservices and distributed systems.
• Designing and developing APIs, preferably RESTful and FHIR-based.
• Experience building data pipelines, ETL/ELT, and streaming systems (Kafka).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, and Helm.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end features and healthcare systems with HL7/FHIR familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement the company’s core application features.
• Lead tasking sessions for new features.
• Provide high-level design and estimates to support SOW and projects.
• Analyze and solve complex challenges; implement solutions.
• Ensure interoperable, performant and maintainable solutions.
• Lead and mentor junior developers and set coding standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine product requirements and test components.
