Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an experienced engineer to architect and build the next generation of financial systems supporting pricing, checkout, payments, subscriptions, invoicing, and entitlements for OpenAI products.

You will own critical backend components, ensure correctness and security, and collaborate with Product, Finance, and Operations teams to deliver trusted experiences for hundreds of millions of users.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend, platform, or distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, data modeling, storage systems, transactional workflows, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience building systems where correctness, reliability, observability, security, or data integrity are especially important.
• Able to own ambiguous, business-critical problems from definition through launch and long-term operation.
• Has a product-oriented mindset and cares about simple, trustworthy experiences for external customers and internal users.
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical partners and ability to work with Product, Finance, Accounting, Operations, Data, and Go-to-Market teams.
• Knows how to make thoughtful tradeoffs between near-term delivery and long-term system quality.
• Able to move quickly and independently in evolving requirements environments.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build the next generation of backend systems and financial tooling used for OpenAI products.
• Design and implement robust APIs, data models, and storage workflows supporting pricing, checkout, payments, subscriptions, and invoicing.
• Ensure system correctness, reliability, security, and data integrity in production.
• Own end-to-end delivery from initial definition through launch and ongoing operation.
• Collaborate with Product, Finance, Accounting, Operations, Data, and Go-to-Market teams to deliver trusted experiences.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term quality and scalability.
