Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a product designer to lead the design of payments and monetization infrastructure across consumer and enterprise products. You will partner with product, engineering, design, and finance to shape how customers understand, manage, and pay for AI usage, extending beyond traditional checkout systems.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ, with relocation assistance offered to new employees.

Qualifications

Strong systems thinking connecting user experiences to platform and business logic.
Excellent UX/UI and interaction design skills with a high bar for quality and craft.
Ability to lead an ambiguous product area with a clear vision and roadmap.
Clear communication of decisions and tradeoffs to technical, business, and design partners.

Responsibilities

Lead design direction for foundational payments, billing, and monetization across OpenAI products.
Design and ship end-to-end product experiences from concept to production-ready designs.
Shape infrastructure and product frameworks for pay-as-you-go, Codex usage, and agentic work.
Partner with engineering, product, finance, and design to define long-term platform strategy and roadmap.
Translate complex platform dependencies and financial logic into clear, scalable user experiences.
Conduct user research to understand pricing, usage tracking, and purchasing decisions.
Contribute to and evolve design systems and patterns for consistency across products.
Help establish the design culture for a growing foundational product area.
