Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking an engineer to design and operate the S3-compatible API gateway for the R2 storage platform. You will work across Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes, owning auth, routing, rate limiting, and cross-team API contracts.

You should have strong Rust/TypeScript/Go skills and experience with large-scale distributed systems, edge computing, and high-throughput APIs. Hybrid role in Austin, TX or London, UK.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in Rust, TypeScript, Go or similar languages.
• Experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems on the request path with low latency requirements.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts like object storage, HTTP/API gateways, edge computing, or SOA.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate the S3-compatible API gateway for R2 operations with low latency and compatibility.
• Build and operate production services on Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes handling high-throughput traffic.
• Own the request path end-to-end: authentication, routing, rate limiting, and interface with storage/metadata layers.
