Job summary

Upstart, a leading AI lending marketplace, is searching for a Senior Software Engineer on Core Pricing. You’ll design and build scalable pricing systems powering lending decisions, partnering with data science, product, and business teams.

You will own technical projects from design to production, improve architecture, and ensure reliability while aligning with business requirements. This role supports remote work across the U.S. and Canada.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, plus 4 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience writing production software in Python and with Java/Kotlin or similar strongly typed language.
• Experience designing, building, and operating scalable APIs, distributed systems, or microservices in AWS or GCP.
• Experience owning the technical design and delivery of complex software projects from development through production.
• Experience building production systems with scalability, latency, reliability, or correctness requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve high-performance, real-time pricing systems across Upstart products.
• Own complex engineering projects from design through delivery, balancing scalability and reliability.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into software solutions.
• Identify and implement architectural improvements for flexibility and observability of pricing services.
• Contribute to technical standards for system design, testing, monitoring, and operations within Core Pricing.
• Mentor other engineers and support sound technical decisions across the team.
