Upstart is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Core Pricing team. You will set the technical direction for Personal and Unsecured Loans, lead large-scale systems, and partner with ML scientists to optimize pricing in a fast-paced, digital-first environment.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive architecture, and ensure scalable, maintainable design across teams. This remote-friendly role offers competitive pay in the US, with base salary range shown and bonuses and equity as part of total

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or Mathematics with 8+ years experience.
• Experience building scalable systems with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C#, or C++.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical direction for Pricing aligned with business goals.
• Lead design of a system optimizing supply-demand matching in the marketplace.
• Collaborate with ML scientists to improve models affecting key metrics.
