Upstart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Core Pricing to design and build scalable, real-time pricing systems powering lending decisions. You will own technical projects, partner with data science, product, and business teams, and improve architecture for reliability and performance.

The role offers a remote-friendly path, with collaboration across engineering, data science, and product teams, and a focus on operational excellence in pricing services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math or equivalent with 4 years of software experience.
• Production Python and Java/Kotlin development experience.
• Designing and operating scalable APIs and distributed systems in AWS or GCP.
• Ownership of technical design and delivery of complex software projects.
• Experience building production systems with scalability, latency, reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance, real-time pricing systems for lending decisions.
• Own complex engineering projects from design through delivery.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and stakeholders to translate requirements.
• Identify architectural improvements to increase flexibility, maintainability, and observability.
• Contribute to technical standards for design, testing, monitoring, and operations.
• Support other engineers with design reviews and knowledge sharing.
