Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and ship autonomous agent-execution for Alpaca accounts. You’ll build account-level policies, guardrails, and services that evaluate rules as agents interact with trading systems.

You will collaborate with Product, Compliance, Risk, and identity teams to define the governance model and ensure reliable, policy-driven actions across MCP-enabled platforms. This is a hands-on role focused on architecture and implementation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience; ownership of production backend systems.
• Shipped autonomous execution: actions taken under policy without person approval.
• Designed and implemented account-level policy with durable rules and audit trail.
• Experience with MCP architecture for stateless/stateful behavior.
• Ability to define account rules with Product, Compliance, and Risk partners.
• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript; willingness to work primarily in Go.
• Strong architectural judgment; proven track record shipping as requirements evolve.
• Clear communication with engineers, product, compliance, and risk.

Responsibilities

• Lead the application architecture for safe agent execution from tool call to trading systems.
• Design and build account-level policy and guardrails for external agent actions.
• Own services that evaluate those rules on the trading path.
• Define agent-initiated trading behavior with tool owners.
• Keep execution model current with MCP protocol and frameworks.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Risk, and identity teams to define control model.
• Own production reliability for policy and guardrail services.
• Review designs across teams and guide technical decisions.
• Mentor engineers to raise design and implementation quality.
