Job summary
Alpaca is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the developer platform that agents and partners use to integrate and build on. You will evolve Alpaca’s MCP servers, tools, and skills, and you build the APIs behind them. You play a central role to define the architecture that provides the fastest time to market for integrators.
Builders who embed Alpaca for their end users all use this surface. This is a hands-on role.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering with production ownership.
- Shipped a developer-facing API, SDK, or platform.
- Experience with MCP architecture and stateless/stateful systems.
- Strong API design with clear schemas and responses.
- Proficiency in Python or TypeScript; willingness to work in Go.
- Strong architectural judgment with evolving requirements.
- Clear communication with engineers, product, compliance, and risk teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the developer platform (MCP servers, tools, skills, APIs).
- Evolve the platform as MCP protocol and connectors change.
- Build new APIs for trading and account capabilities.
- Decide platform components to accelerate app development.
- Keep execution model current with MCP standards and translate changes into architecture.
- Own production reliability and quality for the services built.
- Mentor engineers and raise design/implementation quality.
