Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the developer platform that agents and partners use to integrate and extend Alpaca’s services. You will evolve MCP servers, tools, and skills, and craft the APIs that power these integrations.

You will lead architecture decisions to accelerate time-to-market for integrators, while shipping the first version yourself. Collaboration with Product, Compliance, Risk, and Platform Engineering is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production systems used by other developers.
• Shipped a developer-facing API, SDK, or platform as a primary contributor.
• Experience with MCP architecture for stateless and stateful components and MCP/connector/plugin/skill standards.
• Strong API design, including schemas, compatibility, and reliable responses.
• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript; willingness to work primarily in Go.
• Strong architectural judgment with shipping under evolving requirements.
• Clear communication with engineers, product, compliance, and risk teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and build Alpaca’s agent-facing developer platform: MCP servers, tools, skills, and the APIs behind them.
• Evolve the platform as MCP protocol, connectors, and plugin/skill standards change.
• Build new APIs enabling trading and account capabilities for apps and agents.
• Decide which platform components to render to help developers build apps faster.
• Keep the execution model current with MCP protocol and translate changes into architecture.
• Own production reliability and quality for the services you build.
• Mentor engineers and raise design and implementation quality.
