Job summary

Alpaca, a US-headquartered brokerage infrastructure leader, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design and ship autonomous account-level execution for agents on Alpaca accounts. You will influence policy, guardrails, and trading actions, working with MCP servers, identity, and risk teams to ensure secure, scalable broker-grade operations.

This hands-on role requires architectural leadership, mentorship, and a focus on reliability, while shipping the initial version independently.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering for production backend systems.
• Shipped autonomous execution with policy-based decisions.
• Designed and implemented account-level policy with auditing.
• Experience with MCP architecture and related standards.
• Able to define account rules with Product, Compliance, and Risk.
• Proficient in Python or TypeScript; willing to work in Go.
• Strong architectural judgment with shipping under evolving requirements.
• Clear communication with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture for safe agent execution from tool call to trading systems.
• Design and build account-level policy and guardrails for external agent actions.
• Own services that evaluate those rules on the path into trading systems.
• Define how agent-initiated trading actions behave with tools and engineers.
• Keep execution model current with the MCP protocol and related standards.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Risk and identity platform to define the control model.
• Own production reliability for policy and guardrail services.
• Review designs across teams and guide technical decisions at agent-brokerage interfaces.
• Mentor engineers and raise design and implementation quality.
