Job summary

OpenMined is a nonprofit building open-source infrastructure for federated AI. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design core privacy-preserving systems and extend PySyft, collaborating with teams across the globe.

The role is a fully remote engagement with flexible hours overlapping US Eastern time, roughly a 12-month term that we expect to renew. You will work with external organizations to deploy software while keeping data private and under control.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience with strong Python skills.
• Hands-on coding daily, with clean, reliable, readable, well-tested code.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, systems design, and engineering trade-offs.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain timelines, risks, and trade-offs clearly.
• Full-stack experience on at least one project (backend, data, frontend, deployment).
• Experience with CI/CD, debugging complex systems, and cloud infrastructure.
• Familiarity with security, scalability, and reliability considerations.
• Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar concepts and turn them into practical solutions.
• Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable giving/receiving constructive feedback in a remote team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship core infrastructure for privacy-preserving AI evaluation, mainly in Python.
• Build and strengthen secure enclave (TEE) solutions.
• Extend PySyft, including workers and verified receipts.
• Deploy and support software in partner environments (frontier labs, evaluators, governments).
• Improve reliability, scale and user experience across deployments.
• Write clean, tested, readable code and review teammates' work.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into clear designs and explain trade-offs.
