Job summary

Steampunk seeks a Software Developer in McLean, VA to build tools for AI governance and program reporting within a large federal advisory program. You’ll work in an Agile/DevSecOps environment across the full lifecycle, designing modular cloud components and dashboards for enterprise clients.

The role emphasizes secure, accessible web applications with open data formats and API design, plus strong collaboration and documented coding practices.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience for enterprise clients.
• 3+ years in web app development with Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or C#.
• Experience with Git-based source control (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Experience implementing automated testing frameworks, including unit testing.
• Experience building accessible (Section 508/WCAG 2.1) web applications.
• Experience with open data formats and API design.
• Experience developing software in an Agile environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the AI Resource Hub for client audiences.
• Design, develop, and deploy modular cloud-based components for program tools and dashboards.
• Build automated executive reporting and dashboard tooling for communications and program management.
• Participate in code reviews and QA; automate unit and functional testing.
• Troubleshoot quality, security, and reliability issues; perform root cause analysis.
• Ensure tools align with cybersecurity and AI use policies.
• Ensure outputs use open data formats and APIs for data export and interoperability.
• Apply accessibility standards (Section 508/WCAG 2.1) to tools.
• Document code, features, and user/training guides.
