Job summary

Wintermeyer Ventures is seeking a senior software engineer to own features end-to-end for AI-powered tax and financial software. You will design backend models, implement services, and ship polished user interfaces using TypeScript, Node.js, and React/Next.js.

Collaborate with AI engineers to integrate agent workflows, while embedding security, auditing, and access controls for sensitive financial data. This role fits an experienced engineer in a fast-moving, startup-like environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience after graduation
• 10+ years building backend or full-stack systems at scale
• Experience delivering and operating full-stack features with TypeScript, Node.js and React/Next.js
• Experience with Python services, Kafka or event-driven data pipelines, distributed systems, and microservices
• Background building fintech systems such as payments, billing, ledgers, or risk products
• Familiarity with security and compliance for sensitive data; startup or startup-like environment
• U.S. citizen or Green Card holder; this is a full-time employee role, not a contract position

About the Role

Join a small, remote engineering team building AI-powered tax and financial software. You will own product features end to end and help turn AI workflows into dependable experiences for users handling sensitive financial information.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and operate full-stack features, from backend data models and services through user-facing interfaces.
• Help shape backend services, data pipelines, and event-driven architecture as the product grows.
• Work with AI engineers to integrate agent workflows into reliable, polished product experiences.
• Build security, auditability, and access controls into systems that handle sensitive financial data.
• Use AI coding tools in day-to-day development and help improve how the team works with them.

What We're Looking For

• A degree in computer science or a related STEM field, with at least 5 years of full-time software engineering experience after graduation and 10+ years building backend or full-stack systems at scale.
• Production experience delivering and operating full-stack features, including TypeScript with Node.js and React or Next.js.
• Experience with Python services, Kafka or event-driven data pipelines, distributed systems, and microservices.
• Background building fintech systems such as payments, billing, ledgers, or risk products.
• Experience on an early-stage startup team or a startup-like team, plus familiarity with security and compliance for sensitive data.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder. This is a full-time employee role, not a contract position.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary is $185,000 to $225,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Remote within the United States, with Chicago as the primary location.
