Job summary

One Call is seeking a Senior/Principal Software Engineer to provide architectural depth and hands-on leadership in a complex, legacy-heavy environment undergoing modernization. This remote-first role centers on technical decision-making and delivering high-quality software across .NET Framework/Core, SQL Server, WinForms/Web Forms, and modern REST APIs and front-end stacks.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building enterprise .NET applications in C# (.NET Framework + .NET Core).
• Experience modernizing large legacy .NET codebases (service extraction, modularization, domain consolidation).
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services, logging, monitoring, and observability patterns.
• Experience in healthcare, workers' compensation, claims processing, or regulated industries.
• Experience with distributed queues, messaging patterns, event-driven architecture.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and design discussions across multiple applications and services.
• Provide pragmatic, hands-on guidance to teams working across .NET, SQL, and front-end stacks.
• Evaluate legacy architectures and propose modernization patterns (service boundaries, APIs, refactors).
• Facilitate technical decision-making with clear rationales and trade-off analysis.
• Champion engineering excellence: code quality, testing, CI/CD maturity, observability.
• Unblock teams quickly by diagnosing issues across the stack and collaborating with Product/QA/Design.
• Translate complex requirements into executable technical plans and sequencing.
• Identify risks and balance delivery velocity with long-term stability.
• Contribute high-quality code in .NET, C#, and VB.NET where necessary.
• Build and optimize ASP.NET MVC/Web API/Web Forms/WinForms apps.
• Develop and optimize SQL Server objects, ETL pipelines and reporting.
• Implement robust APIs and data-access layers.
• Work with JS/TS, jQuery, Knockout, Bootstrap in the UI.
• Elevate engineering practices through code reviews, pairing, and mentorship.
• Promote CI/CD, branching strategies, and trunk-based development.
• Improve debugging, instrumentation, and root-cause analysis.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate development and documentation.
• Model responsible AI usage and integrate safely into delivery pipelines.
