Job summary

Charles Schwab is seeking a Senior Reliability Engineer in Austin, TX to strengthen platform reliability and drive automation across distributed systems. You will apply SRE principles, work closely with engineering, product, and operations teams, and help minimize manual toil while maximizing observability and performance.

The role emphasizes on-site collaboration, incident response, and a strong emphasis on automation first.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise-scale applications, platforms, or infrastructure.
• 6+ years of experience developing automation solutions, tooling, monitoring, and alerting.
• 6+ years applying SDLC practices and driving process improvements.
• Experience with SRE, production operations, system monitoring, deployment management, and observability practices.
• Experience administering Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Experience deploying or migrating cloud-based applications.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
• Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or .NET.
• Experience with relational/NoSQL databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, MongoDB).
• Experience with observability/monitoring platforms (Splunk, AppDynamics).
• Experience with AI/ML-powered operational practices is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Apply SRE principles to improve system availability and scalability.
• Design and implement automation to reduce manual toil and improve observability.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams on reliability initiatives.
• Participate in incident response, on-call rotations, and post-incident reviews.
• Support deployment optimization, capacity planning, and rollout validation.
• Influence reliability practices and drive continuous improvement across platforms.
