Job summary

Micron Technology, Inc. seeks a senior photonics lead to define internal silicon photonics direction and evaluate interconnect approaches. You will verify partner PIC designs, collaborate on test-chip specs, and develop optical budgets to advance photonic link concepts.

The role involves building models for system-level analysis and defining measurement interfaces for post-silicon validation, with strong emphasis on data-driven tech decisions and collaboration across senior engineers.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in silicon photonics, photonic integrated circuit design, or optical interconnect development.
• At least one silicon photonics fabrication cycle in a primary design or integration role.
• Proficiency with photonic simulation tools (Lumerical, Synopsys OptoDesigner, Photon Design, or equivalent).
• Solid understanding of silicon photonics process fundamentals—waveguide design rules, modulator and photodetector device physics, and PDK-based design flow.
• Experience developing optical link budgets and evaluating photonic link performance (insertion loss, coupling efficiency, modulation depth, BER).
• Strong written communication skills—this role produces technology assessments and specifications, not just simulations.
• It is expected that the candidate will be proficient in leveraging AI for productivity.

Responsibilities

• Define photonic technology direction and evaluate interconnect approaches.
• Verify partner PIC designs through simulations and risk analyses.
• Define test-chip features and measurement interfaces for photonic link performance.
• Develop optical link budgets and specify modulation/wavelength strategy.
• Build photonic behavioral models for system-level analysis.
• Define optical test and measurement requirements for post-silicon bring-up.
• Produce technology assessments and link-budget analyses as references.
