Job summary

Micron Technology seeks a Senior Member of Technical Staff — Silicon Photonics Engineer to establish and lead the photonics discipline within the Interface Pathfinding team. You will define technology direction, evaluate PIC designs, and specify test-chip architectures guiding photonic interconnect at Micron.

You will collaborate with senior analog and digital designers to shape the program's trajectory, delivering data-driven recommendations and building foundational optical interconnect

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or related field.
• 10+ years of silicon photonics, PIC design, or optical interconnect development.
• At least one silicon photonics fabrication cycle (PIC tape-out or MPW shuttle) in a primary design or integration role.
• Proficiency with photonic simulation tools (Lumerical, Synopsys OptoDesigner, Photon Design, or equivalent).
• Strong written communication skills and ability to produce technology assessments and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Define photonics technology direction and evaluate competing optical interconnect approaches.
• Independently verify and assess partner PIC designs, run simulations and analyze performance claims.
• Co-specify test-chip features, structures, and interfaces for evaluating photonic link performance.
• Develop optical link budgets, modulation strategies, and establish BER targets for photonic interconnect concepts.
• Build photonic behavioral models (Verilog-A or equivalent) for co-simulation with mixed-signal environments.
• Define optical test requirements for post-silicon bring-up and characterization.
