Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks experienced Mates for our U.S. flag fleet. Mates are senior shipboard officers responsible for safe vessel operations, regulatory compliance, and professional leadership on coastal and river routes.

Mates supervise deck teams, oversee piloting and training, and ensure a secure, five-star service environment for guests. The role includes on-board accommodations, meals, and simulator-based training.。

Qualifications

• U.S. Coast Guard Mate’s license: minimum 100 GRT with Near Coastal endorsement; 1,600 GRT preferred.
• Mate experience on coastal and river waterways: minimum 2yrs, desired 5yrs with Z-drive experience.
• TWIC credential required.
• Basic marine engineering knowledge of diesel machinery, hydraulics, and liquid load management.
• Excellent communication skills and team-building abilities.
• Pre-employment drug test and ongoing random testing.
• Great Lakes Mate: route familiarity including St. Lawrence Seaway, Welland Canal, Great Lakes area.
• Ability to perform essential functions on board with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
• Operate the vessel in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Conduct daily inspections of all vessel spaces.
• Supervise, lead, and develop deck officers.
• Execute vessel cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
• Execute crew orientation, training, watch standing, and emergency drills.
• Collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew for five-star guest service.
• Document cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
• Lead a safe, clean, and comfortable onboard environment for passengers and crew.
