Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks experienced Mates for our U.S. flag fleet. Mates serve as senior shipboard officers under the Captain, ensuring safe operations and professional leadership on inland and coastal routes.

Qualified candidates bring a Coast Guard Mate license with appropriate GRT endorsements, 2+ years coastal/river experience, and strong communication. The role requires long voyages, training on our bridge simulator, and a commitment to our safety culture.

Qualifications

• U.S. Coast Guard Mate license required; 100 GRT min with Near Coastal endorsement; 1,600 GRT preferred.
• 2+ years mate experience on coastal/river waterways; 5+ years preferred with Z-drive experience.
• Excellent communication and team-building skills.
• Pre-employment drug test and ongoing random testing.
• Great Lakes route familiarity including St. Lawrence Seaway, Welland Canal, and Great Lakes ports.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
• Operate vessel in compliance with standards.
• Conduct daily vessel inspections.
• Supervise and develop deck officers.
• Lead cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics on board.
• Oversee crew orientation, training, watch standing, and drills.
• Collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew for five-star guest service.
• Document cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics activities.
• Maintain safe, clean, and comfortable onboard environment for guests and crew.
