Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Senior Server Engineer to support, maintain, and improve enterprise server, virtualization, storage, and hybrid cloud infrastructure across data centers, with strong scripting and security focus.

You will manage Windows Server environments, VMware vSphere/Horizon, Citrix, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), participate in patching, incident resolution, and on-call rotation in a 24x7 setting.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Linux/Unix, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related enterprise infrastructure services.
• Strong experience supporting virtualized and hybrid infra including VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon, Citrix, converged, and hyper-converged compute environments.
• Working knowledge of cloud technology platforms, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, hybrid cloud architecture, identity and access management, monitoring, security controls, and cost-aware operational support.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex server, cloud, virtualization, storage, application, and network-related issues using logs, monitoring tools, performance data, and root cause analysis methods.
• Proficiency with scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell or related technologies, to improve operational efficiency, reporting, provisioning, patching, and repeatable infrastructure tasks.
• Knowledge of enterprise storage, backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and data protection concepts used to maintain resilient and available computing environments.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security best practices, vulnerability remediation, privileged access, patch management, change control, and regulatory or organizational compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor problem ticket queues and resolve tickets in a timely manner according to SLAs.
• Participate in monthly security patching for computing environment.
• Troubleshoot with peers and customers on application-related issues.
• Serve as escalation point for application admins and second-level support for complex issues.
• Update Operating Systems and assist with updating VMware Infrastructure (upgrades, hotfixes).
• Assist vendors, customers and peers with remote access needs.
• Follow runbooks for disaster recovery, decommissions, upgrades, and patching.
• Create technical documentation and workflows.
• Adhere to Change Management policies and participate in team meetings and project calls.
• Support cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid cloud services with provisioning, monitoring, and access coordination.
