Job summary

Siemens Mobility in the United States is seeking a Design Engineer to craft design solutions for security access control and CCTV systems in new and existing facilities. You will select product mixes, prepare submittals, and support cost reductions while ensuring customer satisfaction and project profitability.

The right candidate will participate in turnover meetings, perform electrical calculations, and produce plans, device layouts, and bill of materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or 7+ years of security access control and CCTV design experience.
• Knowledge of engineering fundamentals for security access control and CCTV systems.
• Knowledge of access control components: panels, readers, locks, devices.
• Knowledge of CCTV components: cameras, mounts, IP addressing, PoE.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams.
• 4+ years of experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Verbal and written English communication skills.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Choose mix of products and installation methods for cost-effective solutions and prepare submittals and schedules.
• Design security access control and CCTV systems for buildings, including floorplans and wiring details.
• Provide electrical calculations and prepare re-estimates with sales and management.
• Ensure scope and schematics meet customer needs; provide startup and checkout docs to Project Manager.
• Perform quality assurance; mentor and direct design activity of the engineering team.

The Design Engineer creates unique design solutions to meet specific customer requirements for commercial security systems in new and existing facilities. T he right candidate will make recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions to increase customer satisfaction and job profitability.

As a Design Engineer, you will:

• Choose the appropriate mix of products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solution and p repare submittals and schedules; handle the ordering of products and equipment.
• Participate in sales-to-operations turnover meetings to evaluate accuracy of the sales estimate and job layout and d esign security access control and CCTV systems for buildings, including floorplan drawings for system device locations, riser diagrams, device wiring details, panel mounting and wiring details, bills of materials, and sequences of operations to meet the intent of the project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Provide general electrical calculations, including camera lens selection , conduit fills, power supply sizing, etc . and p repare engineering re-estimates and follow up with appropriate sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with job scope.
• Follow up with sales and management to ensure job scope, specifications, and schematics will meet customer needs and p rovide start-up and checkout documentation to the Project Manager for use in commissioning and validation.
• Perform quality assurance; peer-review engineering documents and m entor, train, and direct the design activities of the engineering team.

Basic Qualifications:

• High school diploma or state-recognized GED ; OR Candidates with at least 7+ years of security access control and CCTV system design experience will also be considered
• Must be able to demonstrate :
• Knowledge of engineering fundamentals of security access control and CCTV systems or equivalent field experience with security system controls
• Knowledge of the following access control system components: access control panels, door lock power supplies, card readers (proximity, keypad, biometric), door locks ( mag-lock , electric strike, electric mortise), and request-to-exit devices (manual and passive infrared)
• Knowledge of the following CCTV system components: coaxial and ethernet cameras (fixed, PTZ, 180-deg, 360-deg), camera mounts (ceiling, wall, pendant, parapet, indoor/outdoor), ethernet IP addressing, ethernet limitations, ethernet switches and patch panels, and power-over-ethernet (PoE)
• The a bility to read and interpret electrical circuit diagrams
• 4+ Experience with M icrosoft Office and AutoCAD
• Experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
• V erbal and written communication skills in English
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

The pay range for this position is $59,048 - $101,225 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
