Job summary

Muon Space seeks a Senior Security Engineer to advance our security posture across endpoints, networks, cloud, and identity systems, with emphasis on NIST 800-171 and ITAR/EAR compliance.

This hybrid role requires on-site work in our San Jose, CA office three days per week or fully remote from an approved U.S. location. You will design, deploy, and operate security controls, lead vulnerability management, and drive incident response and awareness initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in information security or security engineering roles.
• Hands-on experience with endpoint security platforms (EDR/XDR).
• Experience managing enterprise vulnerability scanning tools (Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7).
• Deep understanding of IAM principles; hands-on Okta or Azure AD administration.
• Proficiency with AWS security (IAM, VPC, Security Groups, CloudTrail, GuardDuty).
• Experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk, Sentinel, Elastic).
• Familiarity with NIST 800-171, CMMC, SOC 2, ISO 27001.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to convey risk to engineers and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage endpoint security across macOS and Windows fleets; tune policies and respond to incidents.
• Own network security architecture including firewall rules, IDS/IPS, segmentation, and VPNs.
• Lead vulnerability management; run scans, prioritize findings, coordinate remediation, track closures.
• Administer and harden IAM systems (Okta, AWS IAM); manage SSO, conditional access, and lifecycle automation.
• Develop and maintain security monitoring and alerting using SIEM; create detection rules and playbooks.
• Assess new tools and vendors for security implications before deployment.
• Drive cloud security posture management across AWS; review IAM policies, S3, SGs, CloudTrail, GuardDuty.
• Support CMMC Level 2 and NIST SP 800-171 compliance; collect evidence and prep for assessments.
• Develop security awareness training and phishing simulations.
