Job summary

Jobtailor in Minnesota seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead Daikin Screw Compressor development, from concept through testing and certification. You will own sub-systems, drive phase-gate milestones, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with design, test, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of engineering experience, strong communication skills, and strong knowledge of DOE/DFMEA/DVP&R, Lean, and PLM tools for product development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering.
• 7+ years of related experience.
• Understanding of mechanical concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, structures, and materials.
• Experienced in developing and testing Compressors for hydraulic applications.
• Hands-on experience testing electro-mechanical equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
• Skilled at problem-solving within engineering and technical concepts.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to an audience in a presentation setting.
• Capabilities with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools.
• Knowledge of cross-functional groups such as Controls, EE, Mfg, Supply Chain, Design, Quality, etc.
• Understanding of New Product Development processes.
• Knowledge of Lean Principles.
• Ability to estimate work tasks, support project planning activities and translate product requirements into engineering concepts.
• Knowledge of engineering tools and analysis methods such as DOE, DFMEA, DVP&R
• Project Management capabilities
• Knowledge of vapor compression cycle
• Capabilities in modeling/simulation tools such as MATLAB, ANSYS, VapCyc, etc.
• Knowledge of systems engineering and architecture
• Skilled at leading technical project teams
• Capable of effectively mentor more junior engineers
• Understanding of business concepts and engineering's place in those processes

Responsibilities

• Develop Daikin Compressors Products (primarily Screw Compressors) of significant complexity, supporting program quality, cost, and schedule.
• Develop test plans and perform testing of components, sub-systems, and total systems, supporting performance, reliability, and industry certification.
• Work cross-functionally with groups such as design, test, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain to ensure product design meets business needs.
• Drive the execution of the new product development phase-gate process, demonstrating appropriate design maturity and growth across various milestones.
• Technical ownership of sub-system or system designs.
• Acts as technical lead for programs.
• Drive innovation around tools and product design.
