Job summary

Daikin Applied is seeking a Sr. Development Engineer - Screw Compressors to lead development of large-tonnage HVAC compressors. This onsite role in Staunton, VA or Plymouth, MN involves cross-functional collaboration to drive new products from concept through release.

You will own subsystem designs, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovative testing and design improvements across mechanical and electro-mechanical domains. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering
• 7+ years of related experience
• Understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
• Experience developing and testing compressors for hydraulic applications
• Hands-on testing of electro-mechanical equipment
• Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
• Ability to present technical information to diverse audiences
• Experience with PLM tools
• Familiarity with cross-functional teams (Controls, EE, Mfg, Supply Chain)
• Understanding of New Product Development processes
• Knowledge of Lean Principles
• Ability to estimate tasks and support project planning
• Experience with DOE, DFMEA, DVP&R
• Project management capabilities
• Knowledge of vapor compression cycle
• Modeling/simulation tools (MATLAB, ANSYS, VapCyc)
• Systems engineering and architecture
• Ability to lead technical project teams
• Mentor junior engineers
• Understanding of business integration with engineering

Responsibilities

• Develop Screw Compressor products with focus on quality, cost, and schedule
• Create test plans and perform component and system testing
• Collaborate with design, test, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain
• Drive phase-gate development process and design maturity
• Provide technical ownership of sub-systems or systems
• Act as technical lead for programs
• Drive tooling and product design innovation
