Job summary

Daikin Applied Americas is seeking a Sr. Development Engineer focused on Screw Compressors to lead development of primary systems for commercial HVAC equipment. You will drive cross-functional collaboration, own sub-system designs, and guide junior engineers through product maturity and phase-gate processes.

The role emphasizes equipment testing, innovation in design tools, and leadership across design, test, and manufacturing teams. Onsite in Plymouth, MN with competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering.
• 7+ years of related experience.
• Understanding of mechanical concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, structures, and materials.
• Experienced in developing and testing Compressors for hydraulic applications.
• Hands-on experience testing electro-mechanical equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
• Capable of mentoring more junior engineers.
• Knowledge of cross-functional groups such as Controls, EE, Mfg, Supply Chain, Design, Quality, etc.

Responsibilities

• Develop Daikin Compressors products (primarily Screw Compressors) of significant complexity, supporting program quality, cost, and schedule.
• Develop test plans and perform testing of components, sub-systems, and total systems, supporting performance, reliability, and industry certification.
• Work cross-functionally with design, test, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain to ensure product design meets business needs.
• Drive the execution of the new product development phase-gate process, demonstrating appropriate design maturity.
• Technical ownership of sub-system or system designs.
• Acts as technical lead for programs.
• Drive innovation around tools and product design.
