Job summary

Nova Biomedical in Waltham, MA seeks a Senior/Staff Scientist to lead design, development, and optimization of novel biosensors for clinical and biopharmaceutical platforms. You will be a hands-on technical lead in potentiometric and amperometric sensors, guiding from feasibility through verification and validation.

Collaborate with scientists, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory to ensure sensor reliability and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• PhD in analytical chemistry, electrochemistry, materials science, or biomedical engineering required.
• 3–5 years for Senior Scientist III level.
• 5–7+ years for Staff Scientist level.
• Experience in in vitro diagnostic medical devices, especially electrochemical sensors.
• Expertise in potentiometric and/or amperometric sensor development.
• Experience with sensors for electrolytes, metabolites, gases, or related analytes.
• Experience with PVC, polyurethane, and silicone matrices in sensing applications.
• Experience with planar sensor fabrication and/or thick-film screen printing.
• Experience with advanced dispensing technologies and wafer-level processing.
• Ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and communicate results.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for amperometric and/or potentiometric sensor development projects.
• Lead design, development, and optimization of biosensor architectures from feasibility to verification and validation.
• Design and optimize sensors for clinical biofluids and biopharmaceutical samples.
• Apply electrochemistry, materials science, and surface chemistry to improve sensor performance.
• Optimize sensor use life and shelf life.
• Develop algorithms to maximize sensor performance and reduce read time.
• Plan and conduct experiments independently; communicate findings clearly.
• Model electrochemical systems and visualize data with analytical tools.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop scalable processes.
• Support transition of new sensor technologies to production.
• Partner with Regulatory and Quality to plan and execute verification/validation.
• Ensure alignment with design controls and quality systems.
