Job Description

Discovery Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join the Cell and Functional Biology group at the Cambridge Research Center (CRC). The CRC site based in Cambridge, MA offers a unique setting where BGM, Immunology, Neuroscience, and Genomic Research Center co-exist. In this role, you will be responsible for the conceptualization and execution of cell- and protein- based functional characterization assays for lead antibody identification/optimization and collaborating to generate stage-gate appropriate in vitro / cellular / in vivo data packages supporting PoC for Neuroscience programs. The ideal candidate should have strong experience with cell-based assays, cell culture, and antibody screening, and significant experience in flow cytometry, fluorescence-based assays, and imaging. Familiarity with high-throughput screening and multi-specifics is highly valued. The applicant should be able to analyze, document, and report data. You should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable working in cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development and implementation of cell-based fluorescent assays to enable function-first antibody screening across multiple therapeutic areas and drug discovery stages.
  2. Design, optimize, and validate assay protocols, ensuring robustness and reproducibility across projects.
  3. Analyze and interpret complex data sets, providing insights and recommendations for next steps in research projects.
  4. Stay abreast of technological advancements in cell-based assays, fluorescence applications, and imaging techniques to support the expansion of function-first assay design.
  5. Develop close cross-functional relationships with therapeutic area scientists to drive synthesis of innovative ideas and solutions to achieve organizational goals.
  6. Demonstrate scientific excellence through dedication to multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD and typically 12+ (BS) years, 10+ (MS) years, or 4+ (PhD) years of experience in Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or other related field.
  • Proficient in conceptualization and implementation of in vitro cell-based assays.
  • Experience with fluorescent-based assay development with expertise in cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA/microplate cytometry, and imaging platforms.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong attention to quality and details when exercising organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with high-throughput screening, programming, and multi-specific antibodies.
  • Experience with external collaborations and partnerships.
