Job Description Summary

Relying on knowledge and skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, or cell biology, identify and validate molecular targets that play a key role in a particular disease process. Use expertise to support drug discovery programs with a focus on cell-based assay development and execution. Independently conceive of experiments that implement the project strategy and lead to data-driven go or no-go decisions.

This position will be located at Cambridge, MA and will not have the ability to be located remote.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Effectively run complex experiments and/or bring new techniques into the lab.
  2. Practice efficient time management, focus on deliverables, and effectively prioritize when designing/undertaking experimental plans.
  3. Analyze and communicate results to department/project meetings.
  4. Broaden technical knowledge through departmental activities, literature reading, and experiential learning.
  5. Utilize established networks and build new connections, including outside of the existing project team.
  6. Mentor junior members of the lab and/or project team.
  7. Influence within line functions.
  8. Utilize awareness of the drug discovery and/or early development pipeline to identify complex problems, present solutions, and drive implementation.
  9. Collaborate across project team labs.
  10. Accountable for increasingly complex experiments; contribute to the success of drug discovery, technology, and/or early development projects.
  11. Develop ideas from concepts or questions to experimental design decisions based on previous observations.
Role Requirements:
  • MS degree plus 3+ years of experience in Pharma or Biotech industry or a recent PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, or related field.
  • Proficiency with fundamental experimental methods (tissue culture, qPCR, western blotting).
  • Fluorescence and confocal microscopy skills are a plus.
  • Experience with human iPS cell derived models is a plus.
  • Expertise in advanced molecular biology applications, CRISPR engineering, or reporter systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular biology and related experimental approaches is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn new techniques and focus on detail.
  • Basic knowledge of statistics and computational data analysis.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Excellent team player with good communication, creative problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
  • Strong written, oral, and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexibility, aptitude for learning, and passion for driving groundbreaking science.

This is a dual posting. The final level & title of the role will be determined by the hiring team based on skills, experience, and capabilities required for the role (Senior Scientist I / Senior Scientist II).

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:

The pay range at commencement of employment is expected to be between $85,400 - $158,600/year for Senior Scientist I and between $93,800 - $174,000/year for Senior Scientist II. Salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, but may be adjusted based on market conditions. Final pay will depend on factors including location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package may include a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, discretionary awards, and comprehensive benefits.
