Job Title: Sr. Scientist - Systems Integration
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Salary Range: $60.00/hr - $83.00/hr
Our client is seeking a Senior Scientist in Systems Integration to collaborate with highly skilled scientific and engineering teams. The role involves developing and executing instrument workflows, system performance analysis, troubleshooting complex interactions, and system verification and validation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology/biochemistry and experience with testing and integrating complex systems. This position requires a solution-driven mindset and the ability to work in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments to bring a diagnostic platform to market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Translate laboratory techniques into automated procedures for a new platform, involving automation hardware, consumables, software, and wet chemistry, including handling biohazardous materials.
- Design, execute, and troubleshoot nucleic acid purification and real-time detection experiments manually and automatically.
- Identify and interpret instrument performance issues related to chemistry and mechanical modules; maintain an issue tracking system.
- Develop and execute detailed characterization methodologies for verification, validation, and root cause analysis.
- Perform statistical data analysis and provide technical recommendations.
- Follow document control procedures and author reports within a QMS.
- Maintain a customer-centric approach during product development.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors through clear written and oral reports.
Experience and Skills
- Master’s degree in materials science, molecular biology, chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related field, with 7+ years of industry experience or a PhD with 5+ years.
- Experience in systems integration within regulated medical device environments (IVD preferred), including fluorescence microscopy, microfluidics, surface chemistry, and molecular biology.
- Proficiency in designing and conducting tests for imaging, electrical, mechanical, vacuum, thermal, and fluidic modules.
- Experience with Python or similar environments for hardware control, data processing, and visualization.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced start-up environment.
