Job summary

HITT Contracting is seeking a Safety Manager in Charleston, SC to lead safety performance and development across assigned units. You will oversee direct reports, conduct evaluations, and mentor team members while ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and client safety requirements.

The role focuses on hazard identification, incident data analysis, safety program development, and crisis response, supporting the company-wide safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in safety or related field preferred.
• CHST, CSP or equivalent professional safety designation.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• OSHA 30 Hour for construction.
• OSHA 500 preferred.
• Degree and five years of experience or eight or more years of construction safety experience.
• Shows comprehensive understanding of high hazard technical areas (cranes, fall protection, scaffold, excavation, electrical).
• Good written and verbal communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage direct report workloads based on project volume and department needs.
• Conduct regular check-ins and yearly performance evaluations for direct reports.
• Assess training and learning needs for direct reports.
• Train and support Safety Department members as needed.
• Review career path goals with team members and provide feedback on development.
• Participate in retention and recruitment of Safety Department staff.
• Lead safety inspections and evaluate project compliance with regulations.
• Develop and deliver safety toolbox talks and orientations.
