Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Safety & Health professional to support the administration of S&H event prevention policies and procedures, including public safety matters. You will disseminate safety information, coordinate safety programs, conduct S&H observations, and guide management on regulatory compliance and event analysis.

The role requires coordinating with Safety and Health management to develop advanced training programs and serving as a resource on the event analysis team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene/health, or relevant field; OR associate degree with two years' experience; OR HS diploma with four years in related electric utility operations.
• In addition to education: 4 years experience in S&H or electric utility operations.
• Valid Driver's License; Proficient oral and written skills; Daily travel and autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Instruct, advise, and assist management and personnel to carry out safety and health programs and policies.
• Prepare, advise and deliver programs and materials for S&H meetings and conferences.
• Conduct observations of personnel, tools, equipment, and work practices to ensure safe procedures.
• Advise and assist in S&H event analysis and serve as a resource to the event analysis committee.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations.
• Review contractor safety & health compliance at the location.
• Assist on special assignments with company-wide ramifications.
• Promote and enforce the Company's S&H event Prevention and Safety and Health programs.
