Job summary

Sorcer is seeking a Senior Backend Ruby Engineer to design, build, and scale the backend services for our fintech product. You will work primarily with Ruby on Rails, optimize PostgreSQL, and contribute to architecture while mentoring peers across time zones.

This fully remote role is open to candidates across the United States, offering a salary up to $180k per year, comprehensive benefits, and a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with Ruby and Rails.
• Strong understanding of OO design, testing practices (RSpec/Minitest), and clean code.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and query optimization.
• Familiarity with background job processing (Sidekiq/Resque).
• Experience with RESTful API design; GraphQL a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Ruby and Rails.
• Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers on technical solutions.
• Own features end-to-end from architecture to deployment and monitoring.
• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to peers.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers to raise technical standards.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and debt.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and long-term strategy.
• Participate in on-call rotation as needed.
