Job summary

Motional is seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to diagnose and resolve complex autonomous-vehicle behaviors across on-road, resimulation, and synthetic environments. You’ll own investigations end-to-end, collaborating with perception, planning, and vehicle systems to drive robust, explainable results.

The role emphasizes Python-based data analysis, tooling, and technical storytelling to accelerate safe deployment. Prior experience with AV stacks and CI/CD workflows is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; Master's preferred.
• 5+ years in software or systems engineering for safety-critical autonomous systems.
• Strong Python data analysis, scripting, and visualization skills.

Responsibilities

• System Diagnosis & Root Cause Analysis across simulation and on-road operations.
• Cross-Subsystem Debugging across perception, prediction, localization, planning, and controls.
• Data Analysis & Tooling using Python and custom Spaceship tooling.
• Performance Visualization with Python dashboards and BI tools (e.g., Looker).
• Develop hypotheses and design analyses to test root causes.
• Identify recurring undesirable behaviors and categorize failure modes.
• Translate findings into clear executive-level summaries and release narratives.
