Job summary

Motional is seeking a Principal Engineer to own the autonomous vehicle performance executive reporting, translating complex robotics data into strategic narratives for leaders. You’ll own the weekly SPR, architect the reporting ecosystem, and mentor engineers to raise visualization and storytelling standards.

The role blends robotics expertise with high-level strategy, enabling automatic, code-driven reporting via AI tools and modern workflows. Hybrid in-office or remote in multiple US locations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in BI, data science, and strategic reporting within a highly complex technical field (Autonomous Vehicles, Robotics, Aerospace).
• Master's degree in Business Analytics, Data Intelligence, Robotics, or an MBA with strong technical foundation.
• Executive presence and experience presenting to executives.
• Analytical and influential—ability to drive actionable engineering decisions.
• Strategic and operational balance between long-term vision and deep-dive details.
• Strong understanding of robotics systems, data architectures, and AV performance validation.
• Data visualization expertise as a strategic art form.
• Familiarity with Cursor, MCP, and AI workflows.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Data Synthesis: analyze complex AV data pipelines and extract the core narrative.
• Executive Reporting Ownership: lead the weekly SPR and leadership AV performance reporting.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: partner with Heuristic Extractors, Reasoning Engine & Infrastructure, Diagnosis & Reporting, Data & Metrics Analysis.
• Mentorship & Team Elevation: mentor junior engineers and establish best practices in data visualization and executive communication.
• Reporting Automation & AI Tooling: deploy automated reporting pipelines using modern AI workflows and integration frameworks to auto-generate weekly decks.
