LJB Inc. in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer – Project Manager to support and grow our Transportation Practice. You will lead project scope, fees, profitability, and serve as the primary contact with clients while coordinating with sub-consultants.

Join a seasoned team delivering infrastructure that connects communities. The role requires NC PE within a year, extensive design experience, and leadership to mentor staff and advance PM best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• P.E. license required; NC PE preferred; successful candidates expected to obtain NC PE within the first year of hire.
• At least 10 years of experience in consulting or engineering.
• Experience working on DOT design projects is required; experience with multiple DOTs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for scope, fees, and the profitability of individual projects as well as a portfolio of projects.
• Point person and firm’s contact with clients while functioning as project manager.
• Assists in new sales with clients for which they are managing projects.
• Guides and coordinates all internal LJB transportation disciplines, with sub-consultants, and clients.
• Has a basic understanding of what the other transportation disciplines do and what they require as part of specific projects.
• Responsible for the nine knowledge areas, according to the Project Management Institute (PMI), that are associated with each phase of the project they are managing including: Project Integration Management, Project Scope Management, Project Time Management, Project Cost Management, Project Quality Management, Project Human Resource Management, Project Communications Management, Project Risk Management, Project Procurement Management.
• Responsible for assisting the Deputy Operations Manager in maintaining PM best practices.
• On larger projects, PM may or may not be involved directly in the design.
• Apprise Deputy Operations Manager of employee performance on particular projects.
• Provide information to Deputy Operations Manager on future projects so they can manage staffing.
• Assist in informal development of other employees.
