Job summary

Arup on the West Coast seeks a Transformative Roadway Design Leader to guide planning and delivery on major street and mobility projects. You will lead design efforts that balance sustainability, safety, and client needs across public and private sectors.

The role demands deep street design experience, strong leadership, and the ability to coordinate with DOTs, utilities, and traffic analysts. A California license and CAD 3D skills are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10-15 years progressively responsible professional experience; DOT/Caltrans experience a plus.
• Portfolio of professional street design projects showing breadth and impact.
• Professional leadership evidenced by publications, committee memberships, or presentations.
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for design and documentation.
• CA professional engineering license or ability to obtain quickly.
• Experience with NEPA/CEQA, coordination with traffic analysts and utilities teams.

Responsibilities

• Shape the future of Arup’s roadway design business aligned with sustainability, social equity and climate commitments.
• Manage complete street and mobility design projects from concept through construction documents.
• Oversee work and staff on major roadway infrastructure projects with design standards and Green Streets components.
• Prepare high-quality project deliverables, presentations, and client communications.
• Support business development to secure roadway and mobility design work and build client relationships.
