Job summary

Blackhawk Network in Coppell, TX is seeking a Risk Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team of engineers focused on real-time risk scoring and fraud decisioning. You will guide architecture, coach engineers, and partner with Product Owners to drive the roadmap.

Hybrid role with in-person collaboration at the Coppell office. Candidates should have 8+ years with Java, 2+ years of management, and strong cloud/AWS and ML knowledge to advance scalable systems and secure web services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience building commercial products with Java.
• 2+ years of management experience leading distributed teams.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent; MS a plus.
• Experience designing REST services and microservices.
• Experience with scalable, low-latency systems; SQL/NoSQL.
• Security best practices (OWASP) and cloud (AWS).
• Agile delivery experience and knowledge of ML concepts/AI tooling.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage ~10 engineers across multiple US locations and oversee growth, performance, and hiring.
• Contribute code, review architecture, and unblock delivery on Protego roadmap items.
• Partner with Product Owners to shape risk engineering priorities.
• Own sprint execution, backlog grooming, and Jira hygiene.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with Risk Ops, Compliance, Payments, Identity.
• Own AWS cost accountability and drive optimization aligned with sustainability goals.
• Champion AI-assisted engineering practices and evaluate AI solutions.
• Represent team in cross-functional planning and accelerate blockers.
