Blackhawk Network is seeking a Senior Risk Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team of engineers across the US, owning the risk decisioning platform, real-time scoring, and cross‑functional delivery with Product, Security and Compliance partners.

You’ll drive architecture, sprint execution, cost optimization on AWS, and mentor engineers while advocating AI/LLM‑based tooling to improve velocity and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; Master's degree a plus
• REST services design with microservice architectures
• Scalable, high-throughput, low-latency systems experience
• Relational and NoSQL database design and SQL
• Security best practices (OWASP) in web applications
• AWS cloud experience including cost management
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• ML concepts for risk model integration
• Knowledge of AI/LLM concepts and agentic workflows
• Clear communication of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Directly manage ~10 engineers across multiple US locations, owning career growth, performance, hiring, and day-to-day team health
• Stay hands‑on: contribute code, review architecture decisions, and unblock technical execution on Protego roadmap items
• Partner with Product Owners to shape and prioritize the Risk Engineering roadmap
• Own sprint execution and Jira hygiene including backlog grooming, sprint planning, velocity tracking
• Manage stakeholder relationships across Risk Ops, Compliance, Payments, and Identity teams
• Own AWS cost accountability for your team's services, monitor spend and drive optimization
• Champion AI‑assisted engineering practices within the team, using tools like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot
• Represent the team in cross‑functional planning and elevate blockers proactively
