Job summary

CHAOS Industries seeks a Senior RF Geolocation Engineer to lead passive RF geolocation development for electromagnetic warfare products. You will derive, implement, and validate high-performance localization solutions across distributed sensors to detect and geolocate non-cooperative RF emitters in complex environments.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of RF signal processing, estimation, or geolocation algorithm experience.
• Strong foundation in statistical and time-domain signal processing, detection and estimation theory, and linear algebra.
• Experience with passive RF geolocation algorithms (e.g., TDOA, FDOA, multilateration, direction finding, interferometry, or hybrid localization).
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C++, for modeling, simulation, and implementation of signal processing algorithms.
• Experience evaluating algorithms under real-world impairments (low SNR, synchronization error, sensor geometry uncertainty).
• Ability to translate theoretical models into production-ready software for RF/SDR hardware.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• On-site work in Hawthorne, CA or Washington, D.C. (3–5 days/week).
• U.S. citizen; ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and derive advanced passive RF geolocation algorithms from first principles (TDOA, FDOA, hybrid architectures).
• Develop coherent/passive geolocation and imaging approaches, including interferometric processing.
• Apply statistical detection frameworks (Neyman-Pearson, Bayesian, CFAR) to maximize detection probability.
• Apply estimation and detection theory to formulate robust localization solutions.
• Model and mitigate real-world nonidealities (oscillator phase noise, timing jitter, calibration error).
• Develop, implement, and refine software for passive geolocation and RF scene analysis using Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar.
• Translate algorithms to real-time implementations on DSP, GPU, or other architectures.
• Build high-fidelity simulations to evaluate geolocation accuracy and system tradeoffs.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to define RF front-end/timing requirements.
• Support integration, calibration, test planning, and field validation.
• Document assumptions, derivations, and performance results for stakeholders.
