Job summary

National Rural Electric Cooperative Association seeks a retirement compliance specialist to guide member cooperatives and internal staff on retirement plan requirements and complex testing. You will analyze results, address compliance risks, and help maximize plan value while minimizing risk.

The role covers safe harbor design, adoption reviews, and testing oversight in a hybrid work model with up to two days remote weekly. 8–10 years in DC/DB and professional certifications are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
• 8–10 years of related compliance experience with defined contribution and defined benefit plans.
• Professional Certifications (QKA, QPA, CEBS or equivalent).
• Specialized knowledge of DOL, IRC, and ERISA requirements for qualified retirement plans.
• Advanced understanding of defined contribution and defined benefit designs.
• Advanced skill in ADP/ACP testing including 401(a)(4), 402(g), 415, 401(a)(17), 414, 416, and 410(b) tests.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for technical review and validation of defined contribution and defined benefit plan compliance testing performed by an external vendor, including analysis of results and comparison of multiple tests.
• Summarizes test findings for cooperatives, identifies compliance risks, and recommends corrective actions for adverse results.
• Reviews new retirement plan adoption agreements, special early retirement programs, past service liabilities, proposals, plan mergers, asset transfers, plan freezes, and other complex transactions to evaluate impact and ensure compliance.
• Leads domestic relations orders project work, including documentation, communication with involved parties, and ensuring DRO complies with IRC.
