Job summary

NRECA is seeking an experienced Retirement Compliance Specialist to provide expert guidance on retirement plan compliance for defined contribution and defined benefit plans. You will review testing results, advise on plan design strategies, and ensure adherence to ERISA and related regulations across NRECA’s retirement programs.

The role requires deep regulatory knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to coordinate with internal teams and external vendors.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of related compliance experience with defined contribution and defined benefit plans.
• Professional Certifications (QKA, QPA, CEBS or equivalent).
• Specialized knowledge of DOL, IRC, and ERISA requirements for qualified retirement plans.
• Advanced understanding of both defined contribution and defined benefit designs.
• Advanced skill in ADP/ACP testing and related tests (401(a)(4), 402(g), 415, 401(a)(17), 414, 416, 410(b)).

Responsibilities

• Review and validate defined contribution and defined benefit plan compliance testing performed by external vendors and analyze results.
• Perform complex tests not covered by co-sourcing arrangement.
• Summarize test findings, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.
• Consult on plan design strategies and ensure issues are resolved.
• Review new retirement plan adoption agreements and complex transactions for compliance.
• Lead DRO projects, prepare documentation, and ensure IRC compliance for DROs.
• Maintain DROs and procedures.
• Lead safe harbor plan design work and assist with notices and communications.
